The 60’s and 70’ are the Golden Age of CMN. End of 60’s, CMN begins building the "COMBATTANTE" fast patrol boat series, the first ones built in the Western World. Between 1966 and 1981, 8 to 10 vessels are built each year which represents 40% of the world market for this type of boats. In 1969 the aftermath of media coverage on the famous “Cherbourg missile boats”, which surreptitiously left Cherbourg for Israel in spite of the French government embargo, gave an international publicity to CMN.
In 1987, CMN is not spared from the shipbuilding crisis and does an important reorganisation in order to maintain most of its industrial and commercial organisation. CMN, in partnership with the Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), builds a new prototype vessel: the Agnes 200 - Surface Effect Ship (SES).
In 1992, the Société Financière de Rosario sells SAMT and CMN companies to the Société Financière Française pour l'Industrie de l'Armement (SOFFIA) formed by André Ravier, Contrôleur Général des Armées (CR), Chairman of SAMT and Managing Director of CMN since 1990, who also becomes Chairman of SOFFIA.
CMN re-gains successfully its place among the world leaders with the supply of 2 PSSP-type patrol boats to the French Navy, 4 oceanographic vessels to Indonesia, 3 "Vigilante CL54" (P400 type) to the Sultanate of Oman, 6 15-60 interceptors to Yemen and 8 "Combattante BR42" to the Kuwait Naval Force.
CMN wants then to diversify. Using its expertise in military craft, CMN undertakes the successful refit of the leisure vessels "French Look", "Daad" and "Ananta" which then leads to the building of the passengers boat "VINDILIS" as well as yachts such as the "FRIDAY STAR". In addition CMN builds high displacement vessels for offshore (KIESSE) or fishing operations (COTE DE LA VIERGE for Armement Lagarde) as well as structures (such as floating-dams, car-ferry gangways, sections of offshore platforms as well as funnels for Millénium liners subcontracted by Chantiers de l’Atlantique).
In 1999, CMN takes over SAMT and becomes CMN SAS (Société par Actions Simplifiée). With the creation in 2000 of the Yachts Division, a new chapter of CMN history begins. The Group tries to conquer the expanding Yachting Market. The “BERMIE” (2001) and “HELOVAL” (2002) as well as “LADY B” (2003) yachts demonstrate this will. With its subsidiary CMN-JMV Industries, CMN specialises in the construction in GRP and composites materials thus demonstrating its technological superiority in the races around the world, winning the BOC Challenge in 1995 and the Vendée Globe in 1997 with the 60’ maxi-yacht “SCETA CALBERSON”. Besides, CMN-JMV Industries contributes to the development of the Group in the Yachting world with the manufacturing of the floats of the 32-m catamaran “Lady B”.
In 2001, Pierre Balmer becomes chairman of CMN, succeeding to André Ravier.
In 2004, CMN provides the French Affaires Maritimes with the 52-m patrol boat “THEMIS”. Beginning 2005, the contract signed in 2004 with the Qatar Navy for the supply of 4 DV15 interceptors enters into force with a delivery in 2006. One year later, the “NETANYA 8”, a 58-m motor yacht, is launched.
Today the main orders being realised are as follows:
- A 71-m light corvette “BAYNUNAH” for the UAE Navy:
CMN is the designer of the concept and builds the First of Class which has been launched on last June 25th, in the presence of the UAE Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Staff Lt General Hamad Thani Al Rumaithi, the UAE Navy Chief of Staff, Staff Major General Ahmed Al Tunaiji. The 5 others vessels are being built by ADSB, in UAE, through a transfer of technology contract.
- Two 60m motor-yachts.
- A Project Analysis ordered in 2006-2007 relative to the construction in a Brazilian shipyard of 2 x 500-ton patrol boats for the Brazilian Navy, through a transfer of technology.
- A contract signed in September 2008 with the Brazilian Navy relative to the extension of the Licence of Use of the 500-ton patrol boats design (NAPA 500 type).
